Mormon, physicist and engineer looking for depth and understanding

I'm very much young at heart, but am also very deep and love probing the depth of the mysteries of the universe. I value self-control and rationality first and foremost, and also think there is great intrinsic value to altruism, kindness, gentleness and love. I aim to be: To most, the gentle, wise and intelligent professor, to my future children a loving dad they can trust with their secrets and hearts, and to my future wife, an endless source of love and affection, and of deep, intimate mental and emotional stimulation.

As for a career, right now I'm caught in-between working for NASA as an engineer with their awesome space program (oh, sure SpaceX does it better, yes, but their employees work 18 hours a day and I just can't do that!) on things like the Space Launch System, Orion, or the return to Mars in the 2030's, or being a research physicist studying general relativity.

I had endless fun in high school learning all about rockets, space mission architectures and orbital trajectories, designing my own missions and trying them on Orbiter... The days before Kerbal Space Program! Now I love that game with the Realism Overhaul mods!

The reason I made an account here is because I'm looking for someone who can share my love of hard, technical things. I filled an entire white board with christoffel symbols and the mathematics of general relativity, and the feeling of elation I had was simply profound. Also I want someone who can share my wonder at the universe.

Something I've wondered about my whole life is the strange dichotomy of solipsism and materialism as opposite existential philosophies. Yet here we are, in this ordered universe, and here I am, as me and not someone else. I am deeply fascinated by concepts like qualia, and this strange duality of the mind-body problem, illustrated amazingly well by the Chinese Room thought experiment.

It's somewhat because of this that I've remained Mormon, since as I continue to investigate the nature of existence, setting out into the dark with nothing more than reasoning and logic, trying to understand why we live in an ordered universe where anything exists at all - but most amazingly that existence has ORDER that we can study and understand as science - I often find that I've blazed ahead into the darkness, only to find that Mormon theology has already been there, and I'm amazed by what I find. That, and life experiences I would not believe had they not happened to myself, have convinced me of my faith.

If you look up the wiki article on "Religious Views of Albert Einstein", his big quote under "Pantheism and Spinoza's God" is something I love almost religiously. It encapsulates perfectly the feeling of wonder and awe at the universe. Humanity's most brilliant and finest, thousands over thousands of years, have worked so hard to understand the universe, yet the more I study physics (I'm currently an undergrad doing General Relativity on a graduate level, and see "favorite books" below for some I've read) and the philosophy behind it, the more awe inspired I am by the majesty, beauty, and wonder of the universe, and how little we truly know. As Einstein put it in that quote, we really are like children in a vast library of books in different languages, just beginning to dimly suspect some sort of order behind the universe.

But I'm definitely not dry or boring. In fact, most my friends would say I'm a bit silly and/or goofy. I love to have fun, and I really am a bit of a young one at heart, but I also have a very deep side that I want my significant other to understand, which is why I'm on this site.

I used to be extremely shy, unable to as much as say hello, but now I'm on a high-powered rocketry team with my university working as an engineer in a team (I'm sort of the lead engineer for the payload, a mechanical device that is rotationally independent on a single axis and uses a reaction wheel... The rocket is solid-fueled by an Ammonium Perchlorate-based propellant and will go to 10,000 feet above ground level), and I've started a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" fanclub with 300+ members, so I've picked it up quite a bit, and think I'm not too shabby at the whole social thing any more.

I also love having fun, I'm a huge hugger/snuggler, and I'm pretty good at games like Starcraft, Battlefield and Halo, though I very ever rarely play these games any more unless it's a form of hanging out with a friend who plays them. I also play the violin, write, read quite a bit, and often poke around on the internet, as well as hang out with friends.

Also, I love the heck outta cats. Sadly few cats ever like to be hugged as much as I love hugging them, haha.

And when I get excited about a theory or learning a new physics concept - oh boy can I get excited, giddy, and lively about it!

Goal in lifeTo be a loving and great father to a large family, a great husband, and an accomplished physicist or engineer. Probably physicist.

And to enjoy an evening snuggling with my wife, maybe while reading an amazing book, talking, or not saying anything at all and just enjoying each other's company.

Looking For

Must haveIntelligence, Humor, Great skills, Empathy, Sensitivity, Wit, Thoughtfulness
Look for in a partnerI'm really just looking for
1. Someone who I can marry in the Temple as Mormons do,
2. Someone who is kind and at least sometimes gentle.
3. Someone who will help me raise a large family, as I feel that this is what will bring me the most meaning later in my life, having a large family all around.
4. Someone who will understand my wonder and awe at the universe - with whom I can share a quiet evening with a book and cocoa, and share deep, profound thoughts that reach into my soul about the very nature and wonder that is existence.
5. Someone I can snuggle with quite a bit, maybe once a week for hours at a time.
6. And someone who is open-minded and humble enough (a child at heart) to embrace my other interests along with me. I just don't want to feel alienated at loving cute things, I guess.
On the first dateEat out then hang out and talk after, maybe make it a double-date. Very open to different ideas, even unusual ones, insomuch that they remain within the bounds of chastity...
